An Uncertain Existence: Exploring the Experiences of the Shenandoah Valley's African Americans during the Civil War Era

Join us Thursday, April 29th at 7:00 PM for a special online presentation from Prof. Jonathan A. Noyalas of Shenandoah University. This presentation will highlight some of the findings of Prof. Noyalas' recently released Slavery and Freedom in the Shenandoah Valley during the Civil War Era published by the University of Florida Press. It will explore the many difficulties, obstacles, and uncertainties the Shenandoah Valley's African Americans confronted during the Civil War in the oft-contested Valley. Noyalas is the director of Shenandoah University's McCormick Civil War Institute and the author of fourteen books. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his teaching and scholarship including the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia's Outstanding Faculty Award and Shenandoah University's Wilkins Award.
